Why do my bedsheets keep ripping?

I buy nice quality sheets, but I have a small foam mattress topper, are the sheets catching on that, is that why they rip down the center? Or could it be that they are deeper sheets tucked under a smaller mattress? I just want to figure it out so they can stop ripping!
